New York State Stem Cell Science

works to further the agenda of the Empire State Stem Cell Board, established in April 2007 by Public Health Law Article 2, Title 5A. The statute created the ESSC Board within the Department of Health for the purpose of administering grants for basic, applied, translational or other research and development activities that will advance scientific discoveries in fields related to stem cell biology. Stem cells have the potential to repair or replace specific tissues or be used to develop disease models.

NYSTEM Grantees Conference

NYSTEM will hold its first Grantees Conference on Friday, June 12, 2009 at the Desmond Hotel and Conference Center in Albany, NY.

Program Updates

	Consortia Planning Grants Awarded At its September 19, 2008 meeting, the Funding Committee awarded grants to 18 institutions for the development of strategic plans for the creation of consortia for stem cell research.
	Strategic Plan Adopted The Empire State Stem Cell Board adopted its Strategic Plan at the Board's June 27, 2008 meeting.
