Research Support
To advance scientific knowledge and the promise of stem cell research, NYSTEM will issue requests for applications and requests for proposals. Check the web site for updates, or sign up for NYSTEM eAlerts and indicate RFA/RFP as your area of interest.
For tips on RFAs, applications and award compliance, as well as the status
of the NYSTEM program as of November, 2008, see this presentation.

Requests for Information
Promoting Scientific Advancement in Stem Cells Through Consortia
The purpose of this Request for Information (RFI) is to gather feedback from scientists, clinicians, and administrators who have experience working in multi-institutional research programs (hereafter referred to as "consortia"). The information gathered as a result of this RFI may be used to develop one or more Requests for Applications (RFAs) for the purpose of supporting consortia related to stem cell research and development of novel therapeutic applications.
The detailed Request for Information can be found at:
http://www.health.state.ny.us/funding/rfi/0904270847
Responses are required by 2:00 PM Eastern Daylight Savings Time on July 31, 2009.
Requests for Proposals
Assessment of the Economic and Other Benefits of the NYSTEM Program
This RFP will provide funds to assess the impact of the program on stem
cell science in New York State and the extent to which the goals of the
Strategic Plan are being realized. It is expected that the direct influx
and leveraging of NYSTEM funds into the State’s research institutions will
create jobs and help to recruit and retain world-class investigators.
Moreover, the resulting enhancement of stem cell research across the State
will serve as a stimulus for private-sector investment in the biomedical,
biotechnological and pharmaceutical industries, with broad economic
benefits to our communities. Recognizing this potential, the Empire State
Stem Cell Board wishes to hire a firm to assess these benefits at regular
intervals. The complete RFP and bid proposal forms can be downloaded from:

Requests for Applications
Summer Undergraduate Experience in Stem Cell Research
This RFA will provide funds to create opportunities for undergraduates to
conduct research in the rapidly advancing field of stem cell biology; to
deepen their understanding of the field and learn specialized techniques
under the guidance of an experienced stem cell investigator; and to foster
their appreciation of the broader context in which stem cell research
occurs, including related cultural, historical, clinical and ethical
issues.

Undergraduate Curricula on Stem Cell Science and Related Ethical, Legal and Societal Implications
This RFA will provide funds to support the development of an
undergraduate level course, or modules within a course, on stem cell
science and its ethical, legal and social implications. As the issues
and ethical concerns regarding stem cell science transcend the
boundaries of the scientific community, the ESSCB encourages curriculum
development for science and non-science majors alike.
